Study and work

If you are going on a study abroad program, you may be able to combine it with a work permit, allowing work before, during, or sometimes after studying. However, don’t expect to finance your studies this way.

International students can apply for permission to work while studying only after the student visa holder has commenced study in Australia or New Zealand.

Proof of course commencement – applying online (Australia)
If you apply online for a student visa with permission to work, you must first ask your education provider to notify the department electronically that you have commenced your course.  You should allow at least one hour for the data-transfer to occur before you lodge your application on the Internet. The department system will not allow you to lodge your application until this information has been received.
