Students and trade sought from Philippines
New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark believes closer cooperation between NZ educational institutions and their Filipino counterparts could effectively boost Filipino student numbers to New Zealand.

New Zealand is perceived to be an attractive study destination because students were allowed to reside in NZ if they had found a job.

8000 students are estimated to study abroad each year. Clark is keen to capture a bigger chunk of that lucrative market through trade dialogue.

Filipinos have in the past chosen the United States as their preferred choice for international education but Clark is keen to make inroads into the lucrative Filipino market through trade and dialogue during her brief three day visit.

The Phillipines is NZ's largest export market in South East Asia and the NZ delegation is seeking trade partnerships which are mutually beneficial and strenghten relations between the two countries.
