Migrants to Australia

Australia welcomed 123,000 new migrants in 2004-2005, the highest number in more than 15 years.  The number of migrants is up about 40% in the past decade.

Britain was the biggest "one country" source of migrants with 18,000 out of the total of 25,000 European migrants. There were also 33,000 Asian migrants and 24,000 from Africa and the Middle East, with smaller numbers coming from elsewhere.
