Vocational Education in Schools in Australia - Australian Vocational Student Prize

The Federal government has recognised the nation's top achievers by awarding 467 inaugaral Australian Vocational Student Prizes (AVSP). These students have been recognised for their fine contribution to vocational and technical education. The awards also seeks to make vocational and technical occupations a lucrative option for students. The students were honoured at an award ceremony at Parliament House in Canberra on the 29th of last month.

What is the prize?
The student award comprises of a certificate and $2000 prize money.

How many prizes are there?
In 2005, around 450 student awards were made to vocational students in schools throughout the nation and 50 awards for the highest achieving school-based apprentices.

Who is eligible for nomination?
A student is eligible for nomination if he / she:

  • will complete Year 12 in 2005;
  • has made a sustantial contribution to vocational education and training as part of his/her schooling; and
  • is an Australian citizen or permanent resident.


Are winners of other prizes eligible to enter the Australian Vocational Student Prize?
Yes.
